Service Industry research shows it takes 12 positive interactions to balance one negative interaction when maintaining customer relationships. Emotionally Intelligent people who want to show their warmth use the 12:1 ratio into maintaining to personal relationships. This is related to the altruism personality facet and the Marine Corps Leadership Traits for Parents of Unselfishness. This ratio was popularized in Ruby Newell-Legner’s “Understanding Customers.”
