Chosen Child

« Back to Glossary Index

The invasive parent’s primary victim of Emotional Incest is the Chosen Child. The invasive parent often treats the child as “all good” and favors them. Part of this ‘favoring” is to isolates them from the rest of the family to gain more ontrol over them. This isolation stunts the chosen child’s needs to develop as an individual, to make mistakes and learn, to receive structure and discipline. Obviously this is a form of neglect. The Invasive parent also treats them as scapegoats. The invasive parent uses the child for release of anger, tension and jealousy. The intended parent maintains her ability to abuse her hosen child through co-dependent sabotage and other abuses.
