A commonly misunderstood concept with no clear accepted definition. The behavior was discovered in dealing with substance abuse recovery when treatment providers found often the people would sabotage the addict’s recovery the most were family members that would appear to benefit the most from their recovery. The sabotage is the exact opposite of the emotional intelligence skill of developing others and is in opposition to any Marine Corps Leadership Principles for Parents. This codependent sabotage is what the blog focuses on when it discusses codependency. This use is not to slight or diminish other definitions of codependency.
