A double bind is a “dammed if you do, damned if you don’t” situation set up by emotionally abusive people. A classic double bind is when you worry about Someone Else and that Someone Else is “upset” at the worry. The Someone Else sees the worry as controlling or annoying. On the other hand, if you do not worry about the Someone Else, they complain that you do not care about them. Double binds are part of the grooming process of preparing someone for future abuse.
