A Big Five Personality Domain. Neuroticism denotes a person’s tendency to experience gloomy and negative emotions and negative states of mind. High scorers are have low thresholds for when they are triggered into a negative emotional reactions. They are easily susceptible to experiencing more anger, stress, and depression. Neurotic people are also prone to experience ambiguous or unclear situations as threatening. Low scorers exhibit greater calm and serenity when faced with bad news. Adversity causes less negative emotions in people low in neuroticsim. Many people view being low in neuroticism as desirable. On the other hand, extremely low levels of neuroticism contribute to a person for being too care free and liable to ignore potential threats in their environment.

Anxiety; Irritability; Immoderation; Self-Consciousness; Depressivity and Vulnerability are the subdomains of Neuroticism.
